The Badlands of South Dakota is a landscape that every photographer must experience. South Dakota is known for its dark sky. It is here in this vast landscape that we will explore and photograph rugged rock formations, prairies, history and wildlife, and hopefully dramatic storms, as it will be the season for more weather. Join us on this 4-day adventure photographing landscapes, wildlife and dark skies of South Dakota.

*Night sessions are dependent on clear skies, and may change. We will schedule long breaks during the daylight hours for rest and relaxation.

    Discounted group lodging has been arranged in Wall, SD and booking info is provided after registration. This does not include housekeeping gratuities (approx. $3-$5 per day), which the participant is responsible for.

  • Park Pass
    A park pass is required by the National Park Service and may be purchased at any visitor center.

  • Transportation
    Many participants choose to ride to field sessions together by carpool.

  • Meals
    While meals are not included in the workshop fee, we like to dine as a group to discuss the day’s events and be on hand for any questions.

RECOMMENDED
This area of the country is home to many attractions. We recommend that you take some time and visit locations such as Crazy Horse Monument and Mount Rushmore before or after the workshop.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, and involve photographing sunrise and sunsets, as well as other field sessions. While workshop locations vary, you should expect to walk relative distances with your equipment. Please refer to the Fitness Level below for each workshop. Some workshops are more strenuous than others. If you have any health issues or concerns, please reach out to us prior to registration.

easy to moderate. You must be able to carry your own equipment to participate in the workshop. Walks to shot locations are generally flat and short, and on grassy or rock surfaces.

 

Travel
The closest airport is rapid city, SD. It’s about 50 mins from the airport to our lodging in wall.
