“The rock becomes red with the sun and my soul ignites with color”
The sun strikes the desert in a fiery hue of red, and it is reborn with power and humility through photography
This small, isolated corner and geological wonder is hiding in plain sight, just one hour outside of Las Vegas. Once you leave the hustle and bustle of noise and lights, a small NV highway will take you on a path to somewhere that quiet reflection is possible. A place where sunlight transforms the day into colors of red, orange and fire before it sets for the night. Red sandstone monoliths tower over the valley, and are highlighted by the pure white silica rocks that are scattered across the landscape. These two rocks also are interwoven into formations of candy cane striped rocks that seem to defy nature, yet exist peacefully as one.
Wind and time have eroded the red, soft sandstone to create arches, and holes that exist in every corner of the park, and create the most interesting colors in sunlight and in shade. The desert colors here range from blue to purple to red to orange, and every hue possible. Every hike in the park feels like you are on another planet, yet you're just outside of Las Vegas.
This is truly a wonderful place to visit, experience and photograph.
