“The anticipation, the heightened awareness, the sighting - I am connected”

I spend months each year researching, locating and photographing wildlife in Canada and the US. Please browse through my photos and connect to your inner WILD!

I hear the wolf howl, I can smell the grizzly, my heart races and I tune out the world. I feel only my photography, I become wild

This world is wild with animals. I sense them, they sense me. A split second look or gaze connects us as only living things can be connected. I try to hide, to remain secret, but they know I am there. I wonder what they see when they look at me? What do they feel? I hope not fear, as I gently retreat or mentally tell them I will not harm them. When we are together, we are a part of the same universe, connected to each other, different, yet similar.

I fear the bear, but respect him. I have smelled the breath of grizzlies (not intentionally).

I am drawn to the wolf, and have encountered them more than any animal in nature. They seem to find me when I am also searching for them. A distant pose, a howl in my direction, could I be a part of the pack? Their paws are bigger than my hands, and I follow their steps in the snow.

One day while alone in Washington, I heard a low growl, then saw the lion. I froze. She was not interested, or I would not be writing this.
